Getting ready for a potential measles outbreak

Message from Te Whatu Ora | Health NZ

Primary and community care immunisation prioritiesPlease see Health New Zealands prioritisation of immunisation activities, which provides clarity on the current settings. Click here to read.

The communication provides guidance on the immunisation activities that can best support the measles outbreak under the current settings, specifically MMR0 advice and amplified BAU. This includes:

  • Prioritise childhood and other national immunisation schedule services. This remains a high priority to prioritise the impact on immunisation coverage.

  • Amplify uptake of MMR on time at 12 and 15 months and for those who require catch-up. This means prioritising time now to actively recall those who are due and overdue for MMR doses 1 and 2

  • Re-engage with whānau who have previously declined MMR with care and curiosity offering the opportunity to ask questions. Prioritise as above – starting from youngest to oldest.

  • Strengthen whānau-centred care and culturally responsive communication e.g. use BERT communication framework

  • MMR dose zero – recommended use

  • No opportunity should be missed to vaccinate.

  • If uncertain about immune status, extra doses are safe to administer when there are no contraindications to MMR vaccination.

Message from the team at Auckland PHO

Look out for a communique outlining our support to identify people/children requiring MMR vaccinations with additional funding to support text messaging and additional clinical time.  We expect to get this to you by tomorrow.

With recent measles cases reported across the motu, you are reminded to maintain an up-to-date staff immunisation register — covering all team members, including non-clinical, HIPs, and Health Coaches.

Staff without documented two doses of MMR may be required to stand down for up to 21 days after measles exposure. Ensuring immunity now helps avoid disruption and protects both staff and patients.

Please encourage all team members to check their MMR status and update records accordingly.

For more guidance, see this link here.

Launch of New Childhood Immunisation Content – Manukaroa’s Story

The National Public Health Service (NPHS) have launched a new content series aimed at strengthening support for childhood immunisations across our communities.

Manukaroa’s Story marks the beginning of a compelling 18-month storytelling series designed to resonate deeply with vaccine-hesitant parents and caregivers through powerful, emotionally driven narratives.

The attached document provides you with guidance on how to share the campaign, along with resources to help you do so.

Mammography Eligibility Age Change

Mōhio Express has been updated to reflect the extended age range for the Mammography Indicator (MAM), now covering patients aged 45–74 years. This includes enhanced logic for patients turning 70 years , with Te Whatu Ora (old DHB boundaries) specific cutoff dates.

To ensure your clinic is seeing these changes, please verify that Mōhio Express is updated to version 3.25290.8700 (excluding Indici clinics):

  1. Click the three-line menu (hamburger menu) in the top-right corner of Mōhio Express.

  2. Select About.

  3. Confirm the displayed version is 3.25290.8700.

If your version differs, please contact Mōhio Support to update the application by using the Flying Envelope at the bottom right of Mōhio Express.
