Measles Playbook – Expect the Worst, Hope for the Best

The Auckland PHO team are pleased to provide a Measles Playbook, which is a one stop shop for practice teams to refer to.

It will be updated over time until measles is stamped out.

The Playbook has been sent to you separately, but it will also be located on the Auckland PHO website – (log in aucklandpho) and we will alert you to the changes as the week progresses.

We are also identifying funding streams for SMS messaging and for additional vaccination clinics.

Thanks for all you are doing to prevent Measles.

Measles – points to know today

MMR 0 – there have been reports of people around the country requesting that their baby/pepe have their  MMR vaccination prior to 12 months.  There is no current communiqué from the National Public Health Service regarding early MMR vaccinations for this cohort.  Any recommendations in this regard will be made by the local medical officer of health and Health NZ, based on local epidemiology.

Measles Immunisation Week

The inaugural Measles Immunisation Week (MIW) is being held this, 3-7 November 2025.

Measles Immunisation Week is a nationwide initiative to raise awareness of the MMR vaccine and protect people of all ages against the disease. The week will focus on amplifying existing campaigns and sector efforts, while increasing public awareness making sure public are protected and if not, seeking immunisation.

It is also an opportunity to recognise people who have already been immunised and acknowledge the dedication and work led by vaccinators and the healthcare sector.

An advertising campaign across multiple platforms (NZ Herald, Stuff, MetService, Facebook/Instagram, YouTube, Radio, TVNZ+, ThreeNow, Whakaata Māori, TikTok, Linear TV, etc) will be in place to support the week.  Targeted outreach activities and tailored materials for priority populations will be used.
