Important information regarding the National Community Referred Radiology (CRR) programme
| From 1 September 2025, the Phase 1 National Primary Care Referral Criteria for Imaging allows General Practitioners, Urgent Care Physicians, and primary and urgent care Nurse Practitioners to refer patients directly for imaging without a hospital specialist assessment or emergency department referral.
This initiative is part of a wider programme of work to improve and align radiology services across Aotearoa and will be phased with a fully implemented, consistent community referred radiology programme to be in place from July 2026.
The aim of the programme is to address the inconsistency of access across regions, so that patients can have fair, equal and timely access to radiology services across the motu. There is dedicated resource to support change management, improved data capability, digital interfacing and clinical leadership as well as funding for any additional demand.
Associated HealthPathways will be updated.

Vaping product recall - Diacetyl exposure | Please see attached message from the Ministry of Health’s Director of Public Health about a vaping product for sale in Aotearoa (Suntree Vanilla Cream, 30 mL) which was discovered to contain diacetyl at over four times the permitted concentration on 14 July.
Diacetyl is a flavouring agent, and long-term inhalation is associated bronchiolitis obliterans, an inflammatory lung condition.
The product was withdrawn from retailers on 15 July. |
