Applying additional fees to patients accessing urgent appointments
| PHOs have been sent a letter from the Director of Living Well, Planning, Funding and Outcomes at Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora regarding reports that some practices are charging their enrolled patients additional fees for urgent consultations during the business day, whether they are walk in or booked.
The expectation is (as per the Fees Framework) that usual practice fees are applied to all standard consultations during business hours – there should not be any additional fee charged for a patient during the day. The position is the same of practices that provide both standard GP services for enrolled patients and also have urgent care services.

Immunisation Coverage Successes | 24-month immunisation weekly health target report Immunisation is a key focus of the Minister of Health and Te Whatu Ora. Each week a ‘leader’ board of PHO performance is published. There are 44 PHOs across New Zealand and Auckland PHO features 4th – the top PHO performer at #1 is a very small PHO in the north with 8 out of 8 fully immunised children.
Week ending 7 Sept, Auckland PHO has 91.4% fully immunised 24-month children and 79.2% Pacific children and 72% tamariki Māori.
Thank you for all your efforts to immunise children – it is great to see how successful your efforts have been.
Antenatal Vaccinations – Pertussis (includes births in the 12 months to 30 June 2025) Auckland PHO leads the Northern Region with 79% of pregnant people vaccinated. Māori are 39.7%, Pacific 44.8% and Asian 88.3%.
Antenatal Vaccinations – Influenza (includes births in the 12 months to 30 June 2025) Auckland PHO leads the Northern Region with 59.4%, Māori are 32.1%, Pacific 35.6% and Asian are 68.2%.
Note that antenatal immunisations completed outside of a person’s general practice, e.g. in pharmacies, antenatal clinics and by midwives are included in these reports.
Thank you for encouraging and supporting pregnant people to be vaccinated. |
