Mental Health Programme

Background and Introduction

The Primary Mental Health Initiative is a Ministry of Health funding programme for PHOs and Primary Care designed to provide early intervention and treatment for mild to moderate mental health conditions. Eligible patients must be enrolled with Auckland PHO, identified as high needs (Maori, Pacific Island and/or living in Deprivation 9 and 10 locales) and/or high health needs and are not accessing services through any other government/non-government agencies.

The goal of this programme is to support GPs in their efforts to provide treatment for mental health conditions in primary care specifically aimed at early identification and intervention for mild to moderate conditions (depression, anxiety).

Payments to Practices

Payments for M2MOptions include reimbursement for extended consultations offered to patients in order to identify mild to moderate mental health conditions and to engage patients in mental health treatment and/or refer for specialist mental health treatment.
