Immunisations against a number of infectious diseases are provided free to all children at all GP practices.

Information on the 2014 National Immunisation Schedule can be found on  Here

Immunisation Handbook 2014

In addition, non-schedule vaccines can be purchased and administered through GP practices.

The Ministry of Health has set targets to increase immunisation rates in order to minimise the transmission of vaccine preventable diseases in the community. Some infectious diseases require a 95% coverage rate in order to prevent outbreaks and epidemics, eg measles and pertussis.

The target for 31 December 2014 is to achieve 95% of 8 month old babies fully immunised and to maintain the 95% of 2 year olds fully immunised which was achieved in 2012.
